If you’ve ever run a chicken coop, you know the environment is brutal. It’s damp, it’s dusty, and the temperature swings are wild. Most people think that when a waterproof infrared heater dies, it’s because the heating element burned out. But here’s the thing: it’s almost never the element. The real culprit is usually the lead-wire junction. That tiny spot where the wire meets the heater is the weak link. Once a little bit of moisture sneaks past the seal, it starts a chain reaction of oxidation. Before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit and a dead heater. The struggle with “standard” seals A lot of heaters use basic adhesives. They seem fine at first, but they can’t handle the constant expanding and contracting that happens as the lamp heats up and cools down. Eventually, the seal cracks. In a coop, you’ve got ammonia and humidity just waiting to get inside. They wick right into the electrical connection. We call this “high-temperature aging,” but in plain English?
