
Here is the reality with recessed infrared heaters: they live in a tough neighborhood. If you’re putting them in a humid spot or somewhere with a lot of moisture, you’re basically inviting trouble. Water vapor sneaks into the housing, settles right on the heating element, and then—boom. You’ve got oxidation or a short circuit. We figured out how to stop that. We just build our units to be splash-proof and anti-fog from the jump. The “Crack” Problem Think about a quartz tube. If a few stray water droplets land on it, you get these little cold spots. Then the heater kicks on. The glass gets hot, but that water spot stays cool, and that temperature clash creates a fracture point. The tube snaps. It’s a nightmare. To fix this, we use sealed gaskets and barriers that keep the moisture out. We pushed the IP rating higher, which is just a fancy way of saying we’ve locked the door so splashes can’t reach the wiring or the lamp terminals. Stuff That Actually Lasts Then there’s the reflectors. Most people use standard aluminum, but in a damp room, that stuff oxidizes. Once it does, it stops reflecting heat and starts absorbing it into your ceiling. Not ideal. We use corrosion-resistant coatings instead. The heat stays pointed down where you actually want it. We also use high-temp seals that don’t warp or shrink after heating up and cooling down a thousand times. It stops that slow “creep” where moisture eventually finds a way inside the chassis. A Quick Heads-Up Now, there’s a trade-off. When you seal a unit up tight to keep water out, you have to be careful about airflow. If you jam the unit into a ceiling void with zero room to breathe, the internal electronics will cook themselves. Make sure you leave some space for the driver. If it’s packed too tight, it doesn’t matter how waterproof the shell is—it’ll still overheat. But if you set it up right? These things can take a beating. You won’t be climbing a ladder to replace elements every few months because the hardware isn’t fighting a losing battle against rust and dampness.
