
Getting More Out of Your Amsler Blow Molder
If you’re running an older Amsler machine, you’ve probably noticed your cycle times aren’t where they used to be. It’s frustrating. You want to push the machine harder, but the heating oven becomes a total bottleneck. The instinct is to just crank up the power. But that’s a trap. If you do that, you’ll just scorch the surface of the PET preform while the inside stays cold.
The secret is in the infrared
We built our replacement lamps to handle this differently. By using high-grade quartz and a halogen fill, we push the energy into shortwave infrared. Think of it as a deeper soak. Instead of just hitting the surface, the heat actually penetrates the plastic. You get a nice, even temperature from the inside out. It just works better.
Don’t mess with the hardware
Here is the important part: you have to match your voltage and wattage to your current power supply. Period. If you throw a high-wattage lamp into a circuit that can’t handle the load, you’re going to trip breakers or fry your contactors. That’s a headache nobody wants. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so these just slide right in. No rewiring, no fuss. And please, double-check the length. If the lamp is even a little too short, you’ll get cold spots. That leads to uneven walls and, eventually, bottles bursting during the blow phase.
A quick warning on heat
Higher wattage means more bottles per minute. That’s the goal. But there’s a trade-off. More heat in the lamps means more heat soaking into the oven frame. If your cooling fans are clogged or just too weak, the oven temperature will start to creep up. Once that happens, your preforms can start to deform. So, do yourself a favor and check your airflow before you swap anything out. If the air is moving well, these upgraded elements will shrink your heating window and let you finally push that machine to its limit.
