
Stop the Burnouts on Your SIG Blomax Lines
There is nothing more frustrating than a lamp blowing out right in the middle of a run. It kills your OEE, stops production cold, and leaves you scrambling. If you’re running a SIG Blomax or a Husky line, you’ve probably noticed that standard replacement lamps just don’t cut it. They aren’t built for the constant shaking and the wild temperature swings of a high-speed PET environment. They just snap. So, we decided to fix the internal structure. We re-engineered them to actually survive the job. The technical side of things These are simple drop-in replacements. We spent a lot of time getting the wattage and voltage exactly right so your PID controllers don’t start screaming at you with errors. By using high-voltage setups, we can pack more heat into a smaller space. That’s the secret to getting your preforms up to the glass transition temperature quickly, without accidentally scorching the plastic. Why they actually last Most tubes warp when they get hot. Once they bow, you get hotspots, and then—pop—the lamp ruptures. We swapped that out for heavy-wall quartz glass. It stays straight, even when things get intense. We also upgraded the electrodes to high-grade molybdenum. Why? Because standard ends pit and oxidize over time. When that happens, the connection gets loose. Loose connections cause arcing, and arcing is what kills your lamp. Getting them running Swapping these in is fast. Pull the old tube, clear out the gunk, and wire it up. Simple. Just a heads-up: since these lamps pack a serious punch, you need to make sure your cooling blowers are clean. If your airflow is choked, all that extra heat can stress out your reflectors. And while you’re at it, give those reflectors a polish. If they’re dull, you’re just paying for electricity that isn’t even hitting the preform.
