The Trade-offs
We went with high-grade quartz glass and coatings that can actually take a beating. They last way longer than the cheap, uncoated stuff. But here’s the catch: those waterproof seals add some weight. They also make the units a bit bulkier. If you’re using old mounting brackets, double-check them. You’ll want to make sure your supports can handle the extra load so nothing sags over time.
A Quick Word on Installation
Here is where most people mess up. You can buy the most waterproof heater in the world, but if your junction boxes are cheap or exposed to the rain, it doesn’t matter. We’ve seen plenty of units fail—not because the lamp broke, but because the installer skipped the weather-tight conduit. Do the wiring right. Get the seals tight. If you do that, these things will cruise through several seasons without you ever having to climb a ladder for a replacement.
