
Getting the Light Right in Ceiling Infrared Heaters
When we design infrared lamps for bathrooms, we’re chasing a tricky balance. We want you to feel that instant, cozy warmth the second you step out of the shower, but we don’t want you to feel like you’re staring into the sun. The real problem is the “blinding” effect. Short-wave radiation can be pretty harsh on the eyes, and for babies or kids, that kind of retinal stress is something we just can’t have. The trick with the light Standard halogen lamps throw out a huge range of light. To keep things safe, we use special quartz coatings on the tubes. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks those piercing blue wavelengths and the blinding glare, but lets the infrared heat slide right through. And here is the cool part: the heat doesn’t bother heating up the air in the room. It travels straight to your skin. By shifting the light spectrum, we keep the glow soft. You get the warmth you want without the eye strain. The nuts and bolts We use high-purity quartz glass for the tubes because it doesn’t crack when the temperature jumps. It’s tough. When these go into a ceiling fixture, the angle is everything. We design the reflectors to spread the light out just a bit. That way, you don’t end up with a concentrated “hot spot” hitting you right in the face. Now, there is a trade-off. Because we’re filtering out the harsh light to protect your eyes, the lamp isn’t as “bright.” But honestly? That’s exactly what we’re aiming for. Keeping it running If you’re installing these in a bathroom, make sure the housing is IP-rated. You don’t want moisture getting in there. If water vapor settles on the quartz tube, it can create hot spots that burn the lamp out way too early. One last tip: keep the reflectors clean. It sounds simple, but a bit of dust on the mirror can kill your efficiency by 10% or 15%. When that happens, the lamp has to work harder and run hotter just to keep you warm. A quick wipe-down makes a world of difference.
