
Getting Your Heat Right: Better Lamps for SIDEL SBO and Husky HyPET
If you’ve spent any time on a blowing line, you know the struggle. You’re trying to get the heat deep into the center of that PET preform, but the second you push it, you risk scorching the surface. It’s a balancing act. When the heat doesn’t hit the core, you end up with uneven stretching and those annoying thin spots in the bottle. It’s a headache nobody needs. That’s exactly why we built our replacement lamps. The secret is in the light. We don’t just throw wattage at the problem. We use short-wave infrared (SWIR) emitters because they actually “speak the language” of PET. They align with the material’s absorption bands, which means the energy pushes deeper into the wall thickness—even when your cycle is screaming along at high speeds. You get the penetration you need without burning the outside. No fuss, no modifications. These are true drop-in replacements. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so you just pop them in and go. No rewiring the oven, no “custom” hacks. We also use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because impurities kill lamps. By keeping the glass clean, they last longer. Plus, we offer coated versions that bounce the heat back toward the preform instead of letting it soak into the oven chassis. It keeps your equipment cooler and your energy bill lower. A quick word of caution. Here’s the thing: if you go with a higher wattage than what the OEM provided to handle those heavy-wall preforms, you’ve got to keep an eye on your cooling. More power means more ambient heat. If your fans can’t keep up, you’ll burn through your lamps faster and might even warp your reflector plates. It’s a trade-off, but it’s manageable if you’re paying attention. We also keep the length and pin spacing incredibly tight. On a high-speed Husky line, things vibrate. A lot. If a lamp is loose, it rattles. If it rattles, it breaks. Ours stay put.
